Description
Taxus baccata (English Yew) in the 190–210cm size offers an instant step toward a mature, premium hedge. These bushy plants establish quickly and knit together to create a thick, dark-green screen that looks immaculate year-round. Yew is renowned for versatility: it thrives in normal, clay or chalky soils and performs in full sun through to semi-shade, coping well with both inland and exposed sites. Once settled, you can expect a steady 20–30cm of annual growth. With one or two trims a year, it clips beautifully to a crisp, formal line and is easily kept anywhere between 1 and 4 metres high, depending on your space and privacy goals.
For a fast, even finish, plant 2–3 per metre (30–50cm spacing). The larger starting height gives quicker impact and earlier screening, while the fine foliage texture makes Yew perfect for smart boundaries, topiary forms, and long, elegant avenues. Tough, shade-tolerant and exceptionally long-lived, Taxus baccata is the connoisseur’s choice for a hedge that delivers dense cover, refined structure and timeless style.
