Also referred to as the Portuguese Laurel, Prunus Lusitanica is a wonderful decorative and functional everlasting shrub used in planting restrictions or borders enhancing designs of gardens. This shrub can average 110-120cm in height and can do well in different soils whether normal, clay or chalk and in full sun or semi shade. This plant which is hardy performs well in dry climates with hot or moderate winters and maintains interest throughout the year with the bright red new emerging leaves that give way to deep green foliage.

 

Per year, the Portuguese Laurel attains a height of about 20 to 40cm making it easy to keep up between one meter and four with flexibility as per the space and the demand. If one is looking for quick and deep coverage, the figures go up to 2-3 per meter spacing when planting. It can be used conveniently by both the regular gardeners and the amateurs as it has low requirements and is resilient.
